Traveling with Japlish - Tunisia and France

December 29, 2007 - Tunisia

I borrowed a book from the library called "Tunisia and the World," which made me want to go to Tunisia, and it was my first trip to the African continent.

The trip took us from the capital Tunis to the desert town of Douz to the New Year in the Sahara Desert, then back to Tunis, and then on to France via a stopover.

The highlight was the camel ride into the Sahara Desert.

However, during a late-night bus ride near the Sahara, the glass window in the ceiling came off and fell backwards, causing rain to pour down, leaving me soaked and unable to sleep, but it was still a fond memory of the desert.

However, the place that left the biggest impression on me was Sidi Bou Said, a city north of Tunis.

The cityscape and Mediterranean scenery are amazing!

The travel bag was a messenger bag made of canvas and leather.

Ride a camel into the Sahara Desert

We rode camels into the Sahara Desert. It took an hour and a half, but my butt started to hurt after 15 minutes.

The hilltop overlooking the Mediterranean Sea at Sidi Bou Said can only be described as "stunning."

There were many Chinuziandoa, but here is my favorite photo.

January 2, 2008 - France

We spent New Year's Eve in Tunisia before heading to France via a stopover.

Although I only stayed in Paris, it was still Europe! I really felt like I was overseas.

It's a wonderful city with a mix of glamorous and vibrant streets, but also surprisingly chaotic and dirty streets.

Paris is surprisingly walkable. I was able to walk to the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.

A photo taken in the Marais district: Parisian women and cobblestone streets are so typical of Paris!
