Traveling with Japlish ~Turkey~

japlishと旅~トルコ編~ | Japlish

2003 Türkiye

Turkey, my first experience in Europe, was an absolutely wonderful trip.

On the first day, my digital camera broke at Moscow airport, so I quickly bought a film camera.

I remember arriving in Istanbul late at night and seeing the cobblestone streets that matched my image of Europe, and I was so excited I couldn't sleep.

Just as I had heard it was a pro-Japanese country, many people were friendly to me.I was treated to meals at a sports bar, and high school students on a school trip to Istanbul asked me to eat dinner with them. They were so friendly that I even ended up having lunch surrounded by them at a restaurant rented out for the school.

This was also a time when pro-Japanese sentiment had increased even further after Japan's defeat by Türkiye in the previous year's World Cup.

There were many times when I could apologize by imitating Umit Davala's header and saying, "I'm sorry about that." (laughs)

I didn't get to ride a hot air balloon in Cappadocia, but everyone encouraged me to take lots of photos.

It was so good that I still remember Turkey often. I'd like to go again.
